June 8th, Vall de Boi. About 25 years ago, I became aware of Ansel Adams’ photograph “Leaves, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, c 1942” , thanks to one of his many books. The subject of the photo is a fern, surrounded by other leaves. The composition is far from spectacular, but the master produced a great image thanks to his well known techniques of exposure and printing. The image stayed stored somewhere deep in my memory, till…… I encountered “my” fern while exploring a fantastic spot called “Pletiu de Riumalo”, I noticed a fern that was hidden from direct sunlight by a huge, overlapping rock. A small part of the plant however received more direct light. Some careful framing and measuring, followed by some post-processing resulted in the following image. But to pay real tribute to the Master, it should be in black and white ….
